Having spent most of their professional lives on the East Coast of England and on the doorstep of the UK’s largest international container port, both members of our leadership team forged their careers from operational customs roles, where they obtained vital hands-on customs brokerage experience.
Starting his career within a large UK customs brokerage, Toby’s early exposure to customs operations came from managing the customs declaration requirements for some of Europe’s largest importers and exporters.
Whilst many of these clients possessed incredible knowledge and expertise within their own fields, it became apparent that many were underutilising customs simplifications. In addition, there was a clear disparity between the theoretical understanding of customs processing and its practical delivery within successfully trading businesses.
It was from this observation that BKR was founded and why Toby’s goal when working with clients is to create a strategy that is understandable and practically deliverable within all areas of the business.
Having founded and managed one of the UK’s largest customs brokerages for the best part of four decades, George’s experience within the customs industry is unprecedented.
George has witnessed first-hand the evolution of the customs industry, as it has adapted and modernised with the demands of international business. During his time as Managing Director of the George Baker Group, George has serviced the customs clearance needs of countless importers and exporters across the globe, whilst personally training and nurturing the customs skills of hundreds of people still occupying senior positions within the industry today.
Now in the latter stages of his career, George’s motivations have not changed, with many companies still benefiting from his customs knowledge and wisdom.
